Strengthening The Commercial Ties between Kurdistan Region and Finland
Erbil: March 17th, 2021, Dr. Dara Jalil Khayat, the President of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in attendance of a number of board members of the Chamber, received a Finnish delegation headed by the Finnish ambassador to Baghdad Vissa Hikin.
In a meeting, Shirin Zaki the head of Kurdistan-Finland Friendship Association presented in, both sides talked about strengthening the commercial ties between Kurdistan and Finland. And, the sectors that available in Kurdistan for investment.
The Finnish Diplomat said that he is happy to visit Kurdistan Region and meet with the Chamber’s president and Representatives, and know about the sectors which are available and the Region needs them to be invested in by the Finnish companies.
Furthermore, he said that It has been a long time since the Finnish companies, would like to come and invest in Kurdistan Region.
“ I want to bridge between Kurdistan Region and Finnish companies.”
And, he disclosed that in the near future a Finnish delegation headed by the Minister of Trade will visit the Region.
Dr. Khayat, said that, during the last few years, Kurdistan Region has witnessed a significant development, we need more experience, we need the Finnish companies to come and invest in Kurdistan.
And, he said that Finland is a progressive and important country in all the sectors, like, industry, agriculture, construction, it's one of the leading European countries. We would like to promote our relations with the Finnish companies through the commerce department in the Finnish embassy in Baghdad. Also, we can introduce the Kurdistan companies to the Finnish company’s products by handing out their brochures.
He articulated that, Kurdistan land is fertile and there are abundant water resources, if an evolved country in the Agriculture field like Finland would invest in this field, we can produce food not for 6 million people but 50 million.
He hoped a joint conference to be held for the Kurdistan and Finnish owners of business interests shortly. Besides, he expressed the readiness of the Chamber to facilitate for the Finnish companies.
In the end of the meeting, Fidaadin Mohamed Amin, the member of the board of directors of the Chamber briefed the visiting delegation about the Kurdistan Investment Law, and the benefits for foreign investors according to this law. And, focused on the industry and tourism sectors as two vital sectors which are available for the Finnish investors for investment.
